Maui police looking vehicle in fatal hit-and-run

PAIA, HAWAII -

Maui police said the body of a man was found lying within the middle of Paia Bypass Road Sunday and investigators said he appeared to have been struck by a vehicle.

The man was found around 8:16 p.m.

Police are looking for a Mitsubishi Galant, possibly model year 1997 or 1998, similar to the vehicle pictured.  The actual vehicle may be a different color than the one pictured.

Police said the hit-and-run vehicle will have front-end damage and it will be missing at least one of the black plastic grill pieces located above the front license plate.

This was Maui County's 19th traffic fatality this year compared with 12 at the same time last year.
