Mother might finally get answers to son's disappearance
A mother thinks she might finally get answers to her son's disappearance. Her son went missing more than 16 years ago. Now, there's new information into the case.
For seven years Patricia Calhau waited for her 29-year-old missing son Rick Calhau to show up at her home.
"He was a joy for the longest time. I expected him to come to the door with his wonderful smile, but as the year goes by it just gets a little dull," said Calhau.
It's now been 16 years since Rick disappeared. He was leaving his Kaneohe home to visit his friends in Kalihi, but he never made it there. His truck was later found far away in Aiea. Since then his mother has learned to cling to her memories of him.
"He was a wonderful kid he was always a joy to us and I just said thank goodness I had him for 29 years," said Calhau.
But, now police say there's new information that may help them find out what happened to Rick.
"I thought he was forgotten so I was really really happy that it came back up. Somebody is thinking about it, doing something about it, because we think about it every day," said Calhau.
Patricia isn't asking for much. She just wants a clue. She's been guessing for 16 years.
"There's never closure because you are supposed to leave before your kids, so it's hard that way," said Calhau.
Patricia realizes there's probably little hope of finding him, but still has a message for Rick for the off chance that he's out there.
"I would naturally tell him to come home, come back to us, but it's not likely," said Calhau.
Before he disappeared Calhau warned his family that he feared for his life. KITV asked his mother why that might have been the case, but police advised her not to answer the question.
