The mother of a 17-year-old girl who escaped from the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility in Kailua turned in her daughter to police Wednesday, according to investigators.
Police say during a cell count, a corrections officer noticed the girl missing. A check of the surveillance equipment showed the girl scaling a fence.
The 38-year-old mother of the girl got a call about her daughter's whereabouts. The mother confirmed the information and informed police.
The escapee was arrested without incident.
