Motorcyclist, 40, dies after Wailuku crash

WAILUKU, Hawaii -

Maui County police say a 40-year-old motorcyclist died after a crash in Wailuku on Wednesday.

The motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Kauna Lipo Drive when the motorcycle crossed the center line, struck a curb on the south-bound edge of the roadway and rolled over.  The motorcycle continued north and struck the northwest curb of Kauna Lipo Drive and Maka Hou Loop.  The motorcycle and its operator came to rest in a back yard of a home on Maka Hou Loop.

The motorcyclist was identified as Zaul Acevedo Gonzales from Wailuku.  Police say he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

This is Maui County's third fatal crash of 2013.  There were three fatal crashes at this same time last year.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
