Honolulu police say officers captured an Oahu Community Correctional Center inmate Friday evening in Kalihi who escaped back in January.

The man is identified as 38-year-old Leslie Dabis.  He was back in custody at around 6:20 p.m.

Police say Dabis and another man are both wanted for assault and kidnapping.

On Friday at around 8:30 a.m., the two men entered a Kapolei residence and assaulted two victims with a dangerous instrument, according to police.  One of the victims, a man in his 30s, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.  A woman in her 30s was forcibly taken in the incident.

Police say the woman was safe after Dabis was captured.

No word yet on the status of the other man involved in the assault and kidnapping.

The suspect is about 5-feet-8-inches-tall to 6-feet-tall weighing 160-to-180 pounds in his late 20s or early 30s with short hair, and a tattoo across upper back, which includes letters and tribal markings.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the incident in Kapolei is asked to call 911.

Dabis is an inmate at OCCC who is part of a furlough program that helps inmates reintegrate back into society, which allows them to leave the prison during the day.

Dabis left for a job interview on Jan. 14 and never returned.

Dabis has 22 convictions on his record.  He was serving the end of a 5-year sentence for felony drug violations.  He was also convicted of auto theft, abuse of a family member and several misdemeanors.
