Officer's death prompts new legislation
New legislation will be introduced after the fatal training crash of a Honolulu police officer.
Solo motorcycle Officer Chad Morimoto died Monday after he crashed his motorcycle near Mililani District Park while training for a special escort detail.
Witnesses said officers were speeding along Lanikuhana Avenue, going as fast at 80 mph.
State Sen. Will Espero announced Wednesday that he plans to introduce a bill next session to ban high-speed training in residential neighborhoods.
He said that while he understands the need for training, it should not be done in areas where there are families and children.
