Kansas City police are trying to sort out a bizarre mystery -- a set of eyes were found in a container at a Northland gas station.

Police said the eyeballs were not human; they likely were from a pig. And they added that no crime was committed.

Police said they were called to a Conoco service station at Northwest 112th Street and North Ambassador Drive late Wednesday by a worker who found a package on top of the trash bin.

Police said the package was a cardboard box with wrapping stating, “keep refrigerated.”  Inside was a medical cooler and inside it was a sealed package containing eyes.

Investigators said there is an eye bank located on North Ambassador Drive. Police said they contacted that eye bank, along with several others in the area, including regional hospitals without success.

Surveillance video showed that two men in a blue Toyota with Nebraska plates left the container.

Police said the eyes were take to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s office to be placed in their cooler for temporary safe keeping.  Investigators said no crime was committed.
