According to the National Retail Federation, 68 percent of Americans planned on hosting or attending a cookout this Fourth of July.  That’s the highest in the survey’s history.

You could see proof of that from the thousands of people who camped out at Ala Moana Beach Park, anticipating Wednesday night's fireworks show.

However, that cookout could cost more due to in an increase in food prices.

"Poke, we skipped on it this year," said Lindsay Wong from Honolulu.  "Normally we would buy it but we looked at the poke and it was super expensive. So we had salmon and shrimp instead."

Though they have leveled out, poke prices reached a record high this year. And according to Bloomberg, beef prices are at a record high due to smaller cattle herds.

"We just cut back on some other things like buying a lot of soda," said James Aquino from Honolulu. "We got some ice water in our cooler to help defray some of the costs."

But the people we talked to say the extra cost is worth it to get to Ala Moana beach early and get a good spot for the fireworks show.
