HONOLULU -

A suspected shooting in Waikiki turned out to be a medical emergency Monday morning, according to police.

Officers were called to Kuhio Avenue and Kanekapolei Street at around 9:45 a.m.  Some roads in the area were closed off during the investigation.

Waikiki resident Steven Pritz said he saw several officer combing the area with their guns drawn.

After a police investigation, it was determined that no one was shot and roads were reopened at around 10:25 a.m.

The city's Emergency Services Department spokeswoman Shayne Enright said a man's varicose vein had burst and there was a lot of blood, which some people thought was the result of a shooting.
