A woman in her 50's suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon after crashing head-on into an SUV on Diamond Head Road.
According to traffic officials, the woman, believed to be visiting from California, was riding with her family when she lost control of her moped and crashed into an SUV driving in the opposite direction.
The crash happened near 3500 Diamond Head Road, in between the scenic lookouts around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Traffic investigators believe that strong winds may have contributed to woman loosing control.
Apparently, the driver of the SUV saw the woman losing control and reduced her speed to avoid a collision. That driver was not injured in the crash.
The female moped rider was taken to Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.
She was not wearing a helmet.
