Maui County fire officials say a North Carolina couple drove off Crater Road about one mile above the Haleakala Visitors Center and 250 feet down a gulch Tuesday morning.
They were hospitalized in serious condition.
Fire crews were called at around 7:42 a.m. Park rangers said that there were two patients that had driven their vehicle off an embankment about 250 feet down a gulch.
The man and woman were sitting up on the vehicle, which was on its side, when crews arrived. The woman was complaining of neck, back and hip pain with lacerations to her arms and head. The man was complaining of pain to his ribs and a laceration to his head.
