Alcohol is possible factor in critical Pearl City crash

Traffic investigators are looking into the cause of a crash in Pearl City the left one man in critical condition Thursday morning.

PEARL CITY, Hawaii -

A 22-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition after the car he was in struck a traffic light pole Thursday morning in Pearl City, according to a Emergency Medical Services officials.

The crash happened at around 4:20 a.m. near the intersection of Kuala Street and Acacia Road near the Pearl Highlands Center.

Police say the man was a passenger in the car.  The driver of the car, a 20-year-old man, was hospitalized in serious condition.

Investigators say the driver did not have a license.  They also said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Police shut down the southbound lanes of Kuala Street from Acacia Road to Kamehameha Highway during the investigation.  The road was reopened just after 8 a.m.
