Arson investigation underway after Palolo couch fires

Two couches caught fire Thursday morning in Palolo and investigators are looking at arson as a possible cause.

HONOLULU -

Police say an arson investigation is underway after two couch fires were set Thursday morning in Palolo Valley.

The first fire happened at around 3:45 a.m. next to a home on 10th Avenue.

The homeowner said he knew something was wrong when the smoke alarm went off.

"I ran outside and I looked out the window and I seen the couch was on fire.  And I just ran down and put out the fire," said the homeowner.

The homeowner says renters who moved out at the beginning of the year were the ones who left the couch.

just a couple of minutes a few blocks up, another couch was set on fire in front of another home.

Police aren't linking the two fires at this time.
