Attorneys on both sides say video shows their client on the defense
The video begins for the jury at 2:23 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 5th, 2011.
But what was said and done in the next 25 minutes is up for debate.
Surveillance video taken from several cameras inside the Waikiki McDonald's is choppy -- recording every second or two.
In those early morning hours, Special Agent Christopher Deedy his friends Adam Bukowski and Jessica West are the first to walk in.
Then they sit in the first booth, with Deedy facing the cashier counter.
Twelve minutes later, Kollin Elderts and Shane Medeiros arrive.
The video shows both men hanging at the counter, gesturing, and then glancing repeatedly at another customer named Michel Perrine.
But what happened in the next five minutes is key.
Within a couple of minutes, surveillance video shows Elderts sitting down, Deedy moving next to him, Elderts on his feet, the two face to face and then the clash.
Then the video shows Deedy on the ground, back up, his arm out, then Elderts rushing forward.
Lead Homicide Detective Peter Boyle said the first of three shots was fired at about 1:44 a.m.
Seconds later, both men are down, then Deedy gets up, but Elderts does not.
In court on Wednesday, Deedy confirmed he told the officer first on the scene: "I have a gun. I shot him. I have a pocket knife."
Officers and emergency personnel arrive to find Deedy hovering over Elderts.
"There was nothing remarkable in the walk to the car?" defense attorney Brook Hart asked Honolulu Police Department Officer Ke Aka Waipahe Aiu.
"No," said Aiu.
Aiu also testified in court that the camera he used and the pictures he took of the crime scene are missing.
Several times, defense attorneys questioned whether police properly secured the scene, or may have moved or misplaced evidence.
They also said the officer who escorted Deedy to the hospital, Officer Kaleo Hosaka, said in his report Deedy "smelled of alcohol."
Defense attorneys said Hosaka later posted that Deedy smelled of booze on Facebook, as well as that he thought Deedy was guilty.
