Beretania St. fire probe now criminal arson case

A house in Makiki caught on fire, close to restaurants and shops. An arson investigation is underway.

HONOLULU -

Honolulu Fire Department officials say the investigation into Saturday's fire at 1095 South Beretania Street is finished and investigators have classified the case of the fire as incendiary.

The case now goes to the Honolulu Police Department's arson investigators.

Fire officials say the flames destroyed an older, unoccupied home.  There were no injuries.

Damaged was estimated at $225,000.

The fire started at around 5:50 p.m. and about 45 firefighters brought the fire under control by 6:19 p.m.  The fire was extinguished just before 7 p.m.
