HONOKAA, Hawaii -

Big Island fire rescue crews are searching for a missing swimmer on the north shores of Hawaii Island, according to fire officials.

The swimmer went missing Monday night in water off of Waipio Valley.

The swimmer told a friend he was going to set up camp and go for a swim, according to fire officials.

The campsite was found undisturbed.  His belongings were found neatly stacked near the shoreline.

Fire officials say the man is in his 60s and he was last seen with green shorts.

Two helicopters searched for the swimmer on Tuesday.  Rescue personnel also used a boat.

The rescue was scheduled to resume Wednesday morning.
