Big Island murder suspect found fit for trial

HILO, Hawaii -

A Big Island man, accused of shooting his Nanawale Estates neighbor to death in May, is found to be competent to stand trial.

Seon Keoni Aki, 44, is a registered sex offender and was examined by three mental health professionals.

In October, Aki pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder for the shooting death of 40-year-old Mateo Balinbin Jr.

A trial date has been set for Jan. 27.  Bail was set at $360,000.
