Big Island police seek public's help to find Hilo assault suspect

HILO, Hawaii -

Big Island police are searching for a suspect in a Hilo assault.

Officers say at about 1:30 a.m. Monday, police responded to an assault call of a 51-year-old Hilo man near the intersection of Kilauea Avenue and Aupuni Street. The victim told police an unidentified man punched him while the suspect's companion held the victim down.

Officers recovered surveillance video footage. It appears to depict a man wearing a hooded flannel print-type jacket and shirt.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects described by the victim as local, in their 30s, 5-foot-6, about 150 pounds with medium builds and tan complexions.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Big Island police at 935-3311, email detectives at or make anonymous tips to CrimeStoppers at 961-8300.

Tips leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
