HILO, Hawaii -

Big Island police have initiated a coroner’s inquest case in connection with a body found in Hilo over the weekend.

South Hilo patrol officers responded to an 11:42 p.m. call Saturday and received information that a fisherman had discovered a body along the shoreline off Hawai'i Belt Road in the Wainaku area.

The body has not been identified.

Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section, who are reviewing missing person cases, have not ruled out foul play.  An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the cause of death and to attempt identification of the victim.
