An 8-year-old boy called for help Wednesday after his baby sitter passed out.

Nelson Quiles regained consciousness while the boy was on the phone with a 911 operator. Quiles told the operator he had too much to drink.

  • Caller: I think he had a heart attack. He just, like, went on the floor.
  • Dispatcher: OK. Is he breathing?
  • Caller: Yes. He's still breathing. That was the first thing I checked.
  • Dispatcher: Good boy.

The boy called 911 from inside his Deltona home and was worried his babysitter was seriously ill.

Quiles regained consciousness after the boy had been on the phone with 911 for about six minutes.

  • Caller: He just woke up.
  • Dispatcher: Can he talk to you?
  • Quiles: I'm fine.
  • Caller: He's fine.
  • Quiles: Who is this?
  • Caller: Police. I called 911.
  • Quiles: Hello?
  • Dispatcher: Hey sir, what's going on?
  • Quiles: Nothing much.
  • Dispatcher: What happened?
  • Quiles: Yes. I just had a few drinks and ended up passing out on the floor.

An arrest report stated the mother had gone to the store to buy Quiles another beer.

The Department of Children and Families was at the home Thursday. The children's grandmother said the boy and another 3-year-old child are now in her custody.

Quiles faces a child abuse charge.

"I don't know what happened," the grandmother said. "I don't think that's true that he abuses his children."
