HONOLULU -

The Hawaii Department of Health has issued a brown water advisory for the east and northeast areas of Kauai due to the heavy rains this week.

The area under the advisory stretch from Nawiliwili to Hanalei.

The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and associated flood debris.

Health officials are warning the public if the coastal waters are turbid and brown, stay out of the water.
