Lane reopened on Route 190 after brush fire extinguished
Big Island police say one lane on Route 190 near mile marker 27 was closed Thursday afternoon due to a brush fire.
The public was being asked to avoid this location, if possible and take alternate routes as crews address the fire.
Fire crews responded at around 1:05 p.m. Firefighters found a brush fire approximately 3,000 square feet in size heading north.
The brush fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. About four acres were scorched.
Fire officials say Bishop Estate owns the land and suffered a $4,000 loss.
Route 190 is Palani Highway and Mamalahoa Highway from Kailua Kona to the intersection with Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) in Waimea.
Police say the lane was reopened before 5 p.m.
