Charges have been dismissed against a veteran Maui High School teacher who was accused of taking photos of a nude four-year-old girl in Washington state.
Thomas Takeuchi was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor after the girl's mother reported finding the photos on the girl's camera.
A spokeswoman for Whitman County says that on Sept. 20 the charges were dismissed with prejudice, so Takeuchi cannot be charged again.
The spokeswoman says the dismissal was in the best interest of justice because the state did not want to make the now six-year-old girl testify two months after her mother died.
Hawaii education officials say Takeuchi has been on and will remain on unpaid leave. Takeuchi is currently undergoing an employment suitability review.
