City considers a trash pickup fee

The city administration sent a bill to the Honolulu City Council proposing a $10 a month fee for track pickup on Wednesday.
The fee would only apply to those using the city's refuse service and not those who use private services.
The city says it costs over $50 a month per location to pick up trash. With the new fee, the city would continue to subsidize the service and recapture less than 20% of the service's cost. The fee would help upgrade equipment and improve the quality of service.
Honolulu is the only county in the state that doesn't have a specific trash pickup fee. Kauai charges $12 a month while Maui County charges $18 a month.
If passed, the fee would be implemented starting in January of 2015.
