Coco Palms Hotel developer given 2 years to rebuild
Perhaps one last shot to rebuild the iconic Coco Palms Hotel on Kauai's Windward Coast.
The resort was heavily damaged by Hurricane Iniki 21 years ago.
Attempts to rebuild it have come and gone and Kauai County had apparently had enough.
At least it appeared so.
In a six-to-one vote Wednesday, the County Council gave a developer two-years to get financing and begin construction.
The county wanted to repeal an expedited permit process for structures damaged by the hurricane.
With today's council vote that repeal is delayed.
