Driver, 31, accused of trying to run down officers charged

HONOLULU -

A 31-year-old man has been charged with assault on a police officer, attempted assault, auto theft and drug charges after he was accused of trying to run down two police officers on Tuesday.

The incident happened at the intersection of South King Street and Punahou Street just before 4:30 p.m.

Police say they were attempting to stop Darryl Higgins, who was speeding on South King Street in a stolen car.  Higgins pulled into the Tesoro gas station and injured two officers and struck two vehicles.

Higgins was arrested on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder, auto theft and resisting arrest.

Bail has been set at $250,000. Higgins is scheduled to appear in District Court on Friday.
