The driver of a dump truck escaped serious injury when he jumped out of his truck just before it tumbled into a ravine off Pali Highway Saturday.
The brakes on the truck were apparently failing so the driver pulled into the lookout parking lot near Kapena Falls. He could not stop the truck and jumped out as the vehicle moved slowly toward a rock wall at the top of a ravine.
The truck crashed through the wall and rolled down a hill before stopping just above Nuuanu Stream.
Emergency crews were called about 1:15 p.m. The driver was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Officials on scene said a crane would be needed to remove the truck.
No one was injured.
