Kihei hit-and-run scene

WAILUKU, Hawaii -

Maui County police say a 41-year-old Wailuku man turned himself in Friday in connection with Tuesday night's deadly hit-and-run in Kihei.

Viki Deardorff, 51, of Kihei was killed after a truck hit her while she was walking along Piilani Highway at around 11:13 p.m.  The truck did not stop to provide assistance.

The man driving the truck was arrested for one count of accidents involving injury or death at the Wailuku Police Station after turning himself in.  He was released pending further investigation.

The Vehicle Homicide Unit went to the man's residence where he said his truck would be.  Officers had previously been to his residence before he turned himself in, but no one answered the door.

Police seized the bronze-colored 2012 Toyota Tacoma truck as evidence in this case.

Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in trying to locate the vehicle.
