A drunken driver who caused a deadly five-car crash on Kunia Road faced the family members of the victims on Tuesday in court before he found out how long he will serve.
Pulu Sese bowed his head as the family of Jennifer Parsons wept over the loss of their loved one.
"She's my youngest daughter and I was hoping she'd be around to bury me when I die and this happened," said Juanita Colon.
It was a gruesome scene in January 2011. Sese had a blood alcohol content level more than twice the legal limit and racing down Kunia Road.
"On this night, he had alcohol in his system and was traveling at 78 mph in a 35 mph zone and he was trying to overtake other vehicles," said Deputy Prosecutor Dean Young.
Sese plowed his vehicle into the vehicle Jennifer Parsons was in. Parsons died. So did Sese's little brother Samson Kautai. The 12-year-old was ejected from the back seat of Sese's car.
The 23-year-old man claimed two lives. He pleaded no contest to negligent homicide and was sentenced on Tuesday to 10 years in prison.
"To the Parsons family, I want to apologize. I never meant for that to happen. If I could go back in time," said Sese. "I apologize from the bottom of my heart. To my family, please forgive me."
Before he was taken away to serve his sentence, the Parsons family also had some words for Sese.
"You devastated lives and families beyond what you can pay back. I hope the Lord will have mercy on your soul," said Greg Pelayre, Parsons' brother.
