An 81-year-old man who was pulled from the water at Makua Beach on Saturday was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital.
The man was visiting from Colorado Springs, Colo., authorities said.
Investigators said the man was snorkeling in calm waters at about 11:07 a.m., 20 to 40 feet from shore when he was spotted face down in the water.
He was brought to shore by bystanders, who then began performing CPR.
Lifeguards from the Haena tower assisted the bystanders with CPR and continued the treatment until Hanalei firefighters arrived.
The man, who has not been identified, was taken to Wilcox Hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
