Off-duty federal officer killed in weekend motorcycle crash

KANEOHE, Hawaii -

An off-duty federal officer died Sunday after losing control of his motorcycle on Oahu's Windward side.

The victim has been identified as 47-year-old Long Thanh Huynh.

The crash happened on the H-3 freeway on ramp near Likelike highway Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m.

Huynh worked for the Department of Defense.

He graduated from HPD Academy in 2009 and resigned after less than one year of service.

Huynh was part of a bike group known as Iron Circle Hawaii, which included members of various branches of law enforcement.

He was not wearing a helmet.

Police shutdown the westbound lanes of the Likelike Highway near the H-3 for about three hours while they investigated the crash.
