Female detainee attempts to escape at District Court

A woman was in court to be arraigned on a charge of unlawful entry to a motor vehicle. She somehow escaped but but was caught a few hours later.

HONOLULU -

Public safety officials say a female detainee tried to escape while at District Court Thursday and was caught in the stairwell.

At around 2:25 p.m., Elloise Ysaol and five other women were being moved into courtroom 7C at District Court.

They were on the hallway on the secured side, between the holding cells and the courtrooms, when Ysaol bolted into an emergency exit.

Ysaol was wearing shackles.  Sheriff deputies secured the building and began the search for the detainee.

Ysaol was caught in the stairwell at the 11th floor at around 3 p.m.

Ysaol was arrested overnight by Honolulu police.  She was charged with vehicle theft.  She will be charged with attempted escape.
