Ferry upgrades underway for Maui

Nearly $7.5 million dollars is being pumped into rehabilitation projects at small boat harbors on Maui, Molokai, and Lanai.

HONOLULU -

Nearly $7.5 million dollars is being pumped into rehabilitation projects at small boat harbors on Maui, Molokai, and Lanai.

The funding comes from the Federal Transit Administration, and will be used at Maalaea Small Boat Harbor and Kaunakakai and Manele harbors.

It will be used to upgrade existing ferry terminals and piers to make them safer and more user friendly.

The ferry system travels between the three islands, which allows people to travel for work, school, or recreation.
