It served during the Gulf War and embarked on numerous dangerous missions. Now the last frigate warship in Hawaii will be taken out of service.

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii -

The USS Reuben James, the last guided-missile frigate at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, was decommissioned Thursday.

The ship was commissioned in 1986.  It served during the Gulf War and in numerous missions.

The Navy is phasing the guided-missile frigates out of its fleet.

Thursday's ceremony at Pearl Harbor was a bittersweet one for the former crew members.

"It's the end of an era.  This is the last frigate to deploy in the United States Navy and I'm glad we were allowed to be a part of that," said Capt. Dan Valascho.

The ship will be moved to West Loch and stay in Hawaii.
