Fire officials say the 20-year-old man was with three other hikers and they all went on the Sacred Falls Park trail late Tuesday afternoon. The rest of the group was able to make it out safely.
Search and rescue crews responded to the Sacred Falls Park trail at around 1 a.m.
At around 2:30 a.m. fire crews were able to make voice contact with the hiker.
Rescue crews airlifted him out just before 7:30 a.m.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources says they will be giving a citation to the rescued man because the trail is closed. He faces a minimum fine of $500 and up to a year behind bars.
In 1999, a landslide at Sacred Falls killed eight people. Since then, the trail has been closed to the public.
