The blaze broke out at a townhouse on Mokulele Drive between the Windward City Shopping Center and the Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery. The townhome looked like it was gutted by the blaze.

Firefighters responded to the fire call at 6:45 p.m. and showed up within minutes to extinguish the flames before it spread to the attached homes.

Fire officials say three people lived in the home and two were home when the house caught fire.

“One occupant was burnt minor. We had an EMS crew on scene. They took care of him right away. He refused treatment. The other occupant got out safely,” said Honolulu fire battalion chief Daniel Yamashiro.

Fire officials say the blaze appears to have started in a bedroom on the bottom floor of the two-story home. The fire was under control by 7:20 p.m.

Fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the blaze. An estimate on damages is still unknown.
