KAPA`A, Hawaii -

Police are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out early Wednesday morning at Supercuts at the Kaua'i Shopping Village in Kapa'a.

Firefighters initially responded to a report of a fire at around 3:45 a.m. However, the building's sprinkler system had extinguished the blaze by the time firefighters arrived to the scene.

Police were notified when firefighters found the salon's back door ajar, and noticed damage to a safe located in the office.

Fire officials believe this blaze may have been intentionally set, and fire and water damage to the salon and its contents is estimated at roughly $60,000.

The adjoining retailers, GNC and Tropical Dreams Ice Cream, also sustained extensive water damage.

No arrests have been made in connection with the apparent arson and attempted burglary case. Detectives are following up on potential leads.
