WAHIAWA, Hawaii -

Honolulu firefighters battled a brush fire near Whitmore Village Wednesday afternoon.

Kamehameha Highway is closed in both directions between Whitmore Avenue and the Pineapple Variety Garden.  Motorists will need to use Kaukonahua Road.

Fire officials say the brush fire was heading toward the junction where Kamehameha Highway, Kaukonahua Road and Kamananui Road converge.

The first call came just after 2:30 p.m.

Fire officials believe the brush fire is about 50 acres in size.  Federal firefighters were also on the scene.  No property was damaged.

Just after 4:30 p.m., the fire was contained.  Firefighters are expected to be on the scene a few more hours to mop up.

Kamehameha Highway was reopened at around 5:20 p.m.
