HILLSBORO, Ore. -

A 25-year-old woman, who is a former Hilo resident, was sentenced Friday to life in prison for the death of her 4-year-old son, according to The Oregonian.

Oregon prosecutors say Jessica Analani Dutro beat her son, Zachary, so severely his abdominal injuries forced him to be put on life support.  After two days in the Intensive Care Unit, he died in August 2012.

The case against Dutro unfolded in Tigard, Ore. where she and her four children, along with her boyfriend, were living in a homeless shelter. After injuring the child, prosecutors say the couple waited much too long to get the little boy help.

When Zachary was just an infant, he and his sister were placed in foster care on the Big Island for over a year.

Earlier this month, Dutro was convicted of murder.  According to The Oregonian, Dutro will have a chance at parole after 25 years.
