Former Honolulu police major to begin jail sentence
Former Honolulu Police Major Carlton Nishimura has turned himself over to authorities to begin his eight month jail sentence.
Nishimura admitted to deceiving FBI agents about an investigation into the United Samoan Organization, a notorious prison gang.
He also filed a false tax return.
Nishmura faced additional charges for extortion and possession of 15 grams of meth, but those charges were dropped in a plea deal with federal prosecutors.
