Galaway found mentally fit in Maui murder case

WAILUKU, Hawaii -

A panel decided Monday that Gerald Galaway Jr. is mentally fit to proceed in in a murder case against him.

Galaway, 40, was arrested on Sept. 1, 2011 in connection with the murder of 35-year-old Celestial Dove Cassman.

Cassman, a Santa Cruz attorney, arrived on Maui with Galaway before her body was found near Nakalele Point.  Autopsy results show that she was strangled.

Galaway faces a maximum 40 years in prison when he is sentenced on Oct. 17.
