Goats allegedly stabbed, stolen from Waiahole farm
Honolulu police have opened a "cruelty to animals" and "theft of livestock" case following a report of two goats being stolen from a farm in Waiahole and two others found with stab wounds.
Last September, 23 goats were taken from a farm in Kahuku. Two suspects were arrested in that case and now residents in Waiahole are hoping that police will come through again. On Monday morning, Susan Owen walked out onto her farm and noticed something was wrong. Two goats were missing and another two were injured.
Owen immediately knew something was wrong when half of the herd was missing. Then she saw one goat covered in blood.
"It appeared to be like a stab wound," said Susan Owen, manager at the farm.
That doe was pregnant. Luckily, animal was still able to give birth to to two healthy kids, but because of the wound she's too weak to nurse them. The farm could have had even more kids because all four of the goats were pregnant.
Another one of the farms goats is also trying to recover after getting it's achilles tendons cut.
"She had been sliced across her back legs with what appeared to be a machete," said Owen.
Owen looked for the remaining two goats around the property but couldn't find them. Neighbors say they heard two gunshots.
"I think that they actually shot two of them and crippled the other two to come back for them, to sell them for meat," said Owen.
Neighbors told Owen this isn't the first time something like this has happened in the area.
"They said that the same thing had happened to their goats, someone had come in and had done the same thing, crippled them and killed some, stabbed them," said Owen.
Goat owners in the area are hoping this story will spread and the community will be on the lookout for these alleged thieves.
So far police have no suspects. The two goats that were taken weigh about 125 to 150 pounds. One of them is black and the other is caramel colored. If you have any information you're asked to call 911.
