Maui County police arrested a 19-year-old man after he crashed a stolen bus into a utility pole in Paia last Friday.

At around 11:30 p.m., a witness reported a yellow bus driving recklessly on Hana Highway heading north in the area of Baldwin Beach Park.

An officer found the bus and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.  The bus did not stop for the officer and accelerated at a high rate of speed.  The officer stopped pursuit of the bus.

The bus later crashed into a utility pole on Hana Highway near Kaiholo Place.  The driver of the bus was taken into custody.

Officers later confirmed that the bus was stolen.

Otto W.K. Wolfgramm Jr., 19, of Hana was charged with operating a stolen vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and other charges.

Bail was set at $3,000.  Wolfgramm was released after posting bail.
