A Hau'ula man suffered critical injuries after falling out of the bed of a pickup truck in Ka'a'awa Monday afternoon.
According to traffic investigators, the injuries happened at around 5:10 p.m. on Kamehameha Highway between Hi'iaka Road and Swanzi Beach Park.
Investigators say that the victim, a 19-year-old man from Hau'ula, was sitting on a truck bed tool box in the back of a pickup truck when he fell out and hit his head.
The driver, a 31-year old Laie man, was said to have been leaving a 7-Eleven parking lot, finishing a left hand turn onto Kamehameha Highway, when the victim fell from the truck.
The victim was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition with severe head injuries.
Two other passengers in the truck, a 27-year-old Laie man sitting in the truck cab and a 25-year-old Kahuku man sitting in the bed, did not suffer any injuries.
The driver was also uninjured. He was later arrested for driving without a license.
The accident happened in clear weather and police do not believe that speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
