Honolulu Police have shut down part of Ward Ave. at Kinau St. after a utility pole fell down leaving some wires hanging on the roadway.

HONOLULU -

Hawaiian Electric Co. crews were working to restore power to customers in the Pauoa, Makiki, and Punchbowl area Thursday night.

HECO says about 4,000 customers lost power around 9:15 p.m. due to a utility pole that fell down at Lunalilo St. and Ward Ave.

Crews restored power to approximately 1,600 customers about 30 minutes later.

About 2,400 customers were still without power.

As of 6 a.m. Friday, power was fully restored.

There was no official word on what caused the pole to come down, but some area residents say the guide wire holding up the pol was loose.

Ward Avenue was reopened by 1:15 p.m. Friday.
