Hilo man wanted for burglary, theft

HILO, Hawaii -

Big Island Island police are searching for a man wanted for a burglary and theft in Hilo last month.

Several items valued at more than $300 were stolen from a home on lower Haihai Street on the morning of Oct. 30. 

Investigation by detectives led to the identity of the suspect, 21-year-old Kalei Kaaumoana of Hilo.  He is described as 5-feet-5-inches-tall, 180 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

He is also wanted for questioning in connection with other burglaries in the Waiakea Uka area.

Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 or contact Detective John Rodrigues at 961-8222 or jrodrigues@co.hawaii.hi.us.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
