TAUTIRA, Tahiti -

Hokule'a and Hikianalia crews are preparing for leg two of their historic voyage around the world. They expect to leave in a couple weeks.

Currently, crew members are moored in Tautira, Tahiti before they venture to their next stop, Samoa.

Master navigator Chad Onohi Paishon will captain Hokule'a, and master navigator Kalepa Baybayan will captain Hikianalia.

Many of the crew members for leg two of the voyage come from the Big Island.

With education being a focus of the journey, crew members will teach all the way up to the day of departure. That includes showing people how crew members survive aboard the canoes.

Master Navigator Bruce Blankenfeld is just one of the canoes' navigators who jumped in this week to host orientations in Tahiti.

Crew members arrived on Saturday.
