Honolulu mayor signs rezoning bill for Aiea development

Live, Work, Play Aiea is one step closer to becoming a reality.

AIEA, Hawaii -

Mayor Kirk Caldwell signed into law Wednesday Bill 68 to rezone land in Waimalu. The area is the location of a planned 14-acre Live Work Play ‘Aiea development.

The $766 million project will include up to 1,500 apartments in five towers that will be built on the former Kamehameha Drive-In Theater site and be the the city’s first catalytic Transit Oriented Development project along the rail route.

Live Work Play ‘Aiea is expected to also include retail shops offices, a neighborhood market and public spaces.

Mayor Caldwell and developer Robertson Property Group now have 30 days to sign the development agreement. Grading and building permits still need to be applied for and approved.
