Thousands of orangutans lost their mothers recently and became orphans. Deforestation in southern Asia has seriously decimated the natural habitat of the orangs. Trees that once served as homes have been cut down for palm oil.

“It’s a very, very cheap oil that is put into all kinds of products; your shampoo, your toothpaste, a lot of snack foods. Thinks like that, so if we can help not buy those products. We are totally helping out those animals out in the wild,” Zoo Enrichment Coordinator Shelby Carlos.

Enrichment coordinators hope the exhibit will bring awareness to the growing issue.
