HONOLULU -

The Hawaii State Teachers Association has endorsed Colleen Hanabusa for U.S. Senate and for Mark Takai for U.S. House.

Hanabusa is running for the Senate seat previously held by Daniel Inouye.  She will be vying for the seat along with Brian Schatz, who currently holds the Senate seat after he was appointed by Gov. Neil Abercrombie after Inouye's death last December.

Hanabusa also received an endorsement from ILWU Local 142.

Takai, currently a state senator, is running for Hanabusa's current seat in the House.  He is running against fellow state senators Will Espero and Donna Kim; City Councilmen Ikaika Anderson and Stanley Chang; and community activist Kathryn Xian.

Takai also got endorsements from the American Postal Workers Union, VoteVets -- a national veterans advocacy group, and Illinois congresswoman and Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth.

Hawaii's 2014 Primary Election is set for Aug. 9, 2014.
